RIOTA Advocacy Special Interest Group presents:

From Self-Awareness to Impact: Leveraging Your OT Talents

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Occupational Therapy

Date: Wednesday, October 29, 2025

Location:  ZOOM

Time: 6:30 pm

Presenter: Lucille Garcia, OTD

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define and differentiate the core concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the context of occupational therapy practice
  2. Identify personal strengths through the HIGH5 assessment and articulate how these strengths can be leveraged to advance DEI initiatives
  3. Analyze systemic barriers that affect occupational justice and apply strategies to promote equitable access to participation in daily life
  4. Develop actionable DEI goals aligned with personal strengths that can be implemented in clinical practice, leadership, or education settings
  5. Demonstrate cultural humility by engaging in reflective practice regarding implicit biases and committing to ongoing learning about diverse populations

These objectives are:

  • Measurable and aligned with Bloom's Taxonomy (define, identify, analyze, develop, demonstrate)
  • Specific to both DEI content and the strengths-based approach
  • Relevant to occupational therapy practice
  • Achievable within the 1-hour timeframe
  • Connected to RIOTA's commitment and the AOTA Vision 2025

"United in diversity. Rooted in equity. Powered by inclusion."
