Do you find yourself struggling to write goals that are functional, measurable, and relevant?  Come join the RIOTA pediatric special interest group as we discuss current trends in goal writing,  as well as how goal writing varies across practice settings.  This will be an open discussion facilitated by the pediatric SIG co-chairs.  Group members are encouraged to bring sample goal pages to share with the group.

Harbor House:  A Port in the Storm

The recently established Harbor House, is the first independent Clubhouse open to all Rhode Islanders. It is a “safe harbor for those living with mental illnesses who seek community, understanding, and a productive life.” Members can engage with each other to regain their confidence, experience productive employment, and re-enter society. Occupational Therapist – Full Time and Part Time Positions

Eligible for $5,000 Sign On Bonus

Visiting Nurse Home Care (VNHC) is a non-profit community-based home health organization that provides in-home services, nursing, social services, rehabilitative therapy, telemedicine and private duty to residents of Rhode Island and southern-Massachusetts.

This position provides rehabilitative care for patients needing assistance and training in activities of daily living. The Occupational Therapist assists the physician in evaluating level of function, helps develop the plan of care (revising it as necessary), prepares clinical progress notes, advises and consults with the family/caregivers and works as a part of the interdisciplinary team.

• Knowledgeably and competently delivers occupational therapy to patients
• Evaluates patient needs through ongoing assessment and revises care plans based on changes in patient condition
• Documents and charts appropriately and within specific time frames
• Follows physician orders and occupational therapy treatment plans for patients
• Oversees and evaluates care given by COTAs
• Identifies equipment needs of patient, requesting physician orders for equipment, working with equipment companies in ordering equipment for patient, and educating patient and caregiver on new equipment
• Regularly re-evaluates patients to identify progress towards goal achievement; reviews OASIS answers, coding and sequencing of diagnoses to ensure accuracy; obtains orders and updates Plans of Care as needed throughout the episode of care.
• Participates effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team to assure that patient services are delivered in a timely manner

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

• Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy school
• Licensed to practice as a registered occupational therapist in the State of Rhode Island and Massachusetts
• Minimum of 2 years experience as an Occupational Therapist
• Home Health experience preferred

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

• Valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance
• Reliable transportation to travel to patient homes per patient schedule and agency needs
• Knowledgeable of occupational therapy practices and procedures based on state practice acts
• Ability to make independent clinical decisions

Our current RIOTA President, Kim Gilbert, OTR/L, will speak about her experiences as a successful clinician and businesswoman in the medical field.  A graduate of Sargent College, BU, Kim has over 30 years of experience in the field of Occupational Therapy across all settings and populations.  She was instrumental in the development of OT Licensure in the state of Rhode Island and has been involved with several revisions since its adoption.  In 1997, Kim started TherapyWorks, a contract company which services school systems and in 2003 started Vital Care of RI, a home care agency.  Kim is an active member of RI Partnership for Homecare and is Chair of the Department of Health OT Licensure Board.
